Friends,

Few things in life bring me as much joy as music. It has a way of moving us—literally and figuratively. Sports and music have always gone hand-in-hand. Every great team has its theme song. With my son now at Tennessee, you can bet that “Rocky Top” (https://youtube.com/shorts/KeNT-ar3htw?si=uLC0fG1fbJeDcX4d) is firmly on my playlist these days. Music draws out our emotions, fuels our energy, and often gives us the motivation we need. Personally, nothing gets more out of me on the treadmill than hearing the Rocky theme (https://youtu.be/r81AviZECUE)  in the last two minutes of a run.

And now that the calendar has turned to September, there’s no better anthem than that Earth, Wind & Fire classic (https://youtu.be/Gs069dndIYk?si=qk8corLYqMCqKHl4).  Just hearing those opening notes makes you smile, makes you move, and sets the tone for the season. I bring this up because I want all of us to let the music push us, motivate us, and inspire us to get out there, stay active, and enjoy life.

Speaking of movement—we’re thrilled to announce that SoCal Adaptive Sports is beta testing Adaptive Skateboarding this month and next. Adaptive skateboarding is an inclusive sport where boards are modified with supportive seating, stabilizing handles, or protective gear to meet the needs of the athlete. Athletes love the thrill of ride, speed and nailing a trick.  We love it because athletes — no matter their ability —  work on balance, speed, and creativity — whether skateboarding standing, seated, or assisted.

We’re excited to bring this new opportunity to our community. Please see the flyer below for more details, and come out to join us. Let’s keep moving, keep playing, and yes—keep the music going.

Pocas cosas en la vida me traen tanta alegría como la música. Tiene una manera de movernos—literal y figurativamente. El deporte y la música siempre han ido de la mano. Cada gran equipo tiene su canción. La música despierta nuestras emociones, alimenta nuestra energía y, a menudo, nos da la motivación que necesitamos. Hablando de movimiento—estamos encantados de anunciar que SoCal Adaptive Sports está en fase beta probando Skateboarding Adaptado este mes y el próximo. El skateboarding adaptado es un deporte inclusivo en el que las tablas se modifican con asientos de apoyo, manubrios de estabilidad o equipo de protección para satisfacer las necesidades del atleta. We've been having an amazing time with our friends over at Robin Hood Academy. Adaptive Archery continues to be full of thrill.

We are the Incredibowls! We continue to shine through Adaptive Bowling at Yucca Bowl. It's always an exciting time with our outstanding athletes. Many strikes were made in the alley and even more smiles all around! 

Adaptive Bowling at Fantasy Springs Every Wednesday

These past few weeks have been phenomenal playing Adaptive Bowling at Fantasy Springs Casino. Great times, great company, and plenty of strikes!

Boccia in Burbank Every Sunday 

Boccia Ball in Burbank has been fantastic these last two weeks. Plenty of laughs, competition and good times were made.

We are growing our Inland Regional Center programs, including self-determination, and continue to offer 1:1 and small group coaching and workouts.  If you'd like to take part and/or participate in any of our programs, please have SoCal Adaptive Sports assigned by your Regional Center Community Services Coordinator (CSC). Our Vendor number is PJ5601. We are open to many different modalities for bringing adaptive sports and physical, social, and emotional health to everyBODY!

As an adaptive sports coach, you'll leverage your passion for sports and strong communication skills to create an inclusive environment for athletes with varying abilities. You'll develop tailored training programs, facilitate engaging activities, and foster teamwork and confidence among participants, ensuring everyone feels valued and empowered. Your role will involve actively promoting inclusivity, adapting strategies to meet individual needs, and encouraging personal growth. Your love for sports and ability to connect with others will be essential in making a positive impact in the lives of the athletes you will coach.

Program Manager

The Program Manager/Coach will work directly with the Executive Director in providing expert coaching, outreach and program development.  Your job will be to provide all of the above to help us achieve our mandate to improve the quality of life for persons with disabilities throughout Riverside County and other Southern California communities.
