Message from Executive Director:

Friends,

At SoCal Adaptive Sports, one of the things that excites me most is the opportunity to continue expanding what is possible for athletes with disabilities across Southern California. Today, I am thrilled to officially share that we are adding wheelchair softball and wheelchair football to our growing portfolio of adaptive sports programs.

This is a huge step forward for our organization—and more importantly, for the athletes and families we serve.

For years, many adaptive athletes in our region have had limited opportunities to participate in team-based wheelchair sports outside of basketball. That is beginning to change. These new programs will create opportunities for competition, fitness, camaraderie, and belonging for athletes with a wide range of physical and developmental disabilities.

There is something uniquely powerful about team sports. They build confidence. They create friendships. They teach communication, resilience, leadership, and trust. They also remind athletes—and the world around them—that disability does not diminish competitiveness, joy, or athleticism.

Next weekend marks an especially exciting milestone as we launch our wheelchair softball efforts at the beautiful The Miracle League Field in Anaheim. The Miracle Field represents exactly the kind of inclusive environment where adaptive sports can thrive, and we are incredibly excited to see athletes take the field together for the very first time.

Wheelchair football is also beginning to gain momentum nationally, and we believe Southern California deserves to be part of that movement. As we build these programs, we are not simply adding sports—we are helping create pathways for athletes who may never have imagined these opportunities existed for them.

What makes me especially proud is the diversity already emerging within these programs. We are seeing interest from men and women, veterans, young adults, experienced adaptive athletes, and individuals trying adaptive sports for the first time. That is exactly what inclusion should look like.

This expansion also aligns perfectly with our mission and with the growing momentum surrounding the Paralympic Movement as we move toward LA28. Southern California has an opportunity to become a national leader in adaptive sports, and we intend to help make that happen.

Of course, none of this happens alone. These programs require partnerships, volunteers, facilities, equipment, community and, of course, financial support. We are deeply grateful to everyone who continues to believe in our mission and invest in a future where sports truly are for everyBODY.

We cannot wait to see where this journey leads.

See you on the field.

With gratitude,

Chris Allen

Amigos,

Chris Allen
