Message from Executive Director:
Friends,
With Memorial Day having passed last weekend, I continue to reflect on the true meaning of this important holiday.
For me, Memorial Day is especially personal. I come from a family with relatives who have served in the military dating back to the American Revolution. Their commitment to service, along with the sacrifices made by countless others throughout our nation’s history, reminds me that the freedoms we enjoy today have been secured by generations willing to answer the call to serve.
For many of us, Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer, bringing family gatherings, celebrations, and time with loved ones. Those moments are worth enjoying, but Memorial Day is also a day of remembrance.
It is a time to honor the men and women of our armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. We remember those who never returned home and whose courage helped preserve the freedoms we enjoy today.
At SoCal Adaptive Sports, that message carries special meaning. We are privileged to serve veterans among our athletes, volunteers, and supporters. Their resilience, determination, and spirit remind us that service takes many forms and that sacrifice often extends far beyond the battlefield.
Memorial Day also challenges us to consider how we live our own lives.
One meaningful way to honor those who gave so much is by building stronger, more inclusive communities—places where every person is valued, barriers are removed, and people of all abilities have opportunities to participate, belong, and thrive.
That is what I witness throughout our programs every week.
I see athletes encouraging one another, families finding support, volunteers giving their time, coaches investing in others, and donors creating opportunities. Together, you help build a community that reflects the very best of service.
As we move into the summer months—with continued growth in boccia, wheelchair softball, wheelchair football, and other programs—I hope we carry the spirit of Memorial Day with us. Let us remember those who served, honor those who sacrificed, and continue creating opportunities for connection, dignity, and joy through sports.
Thank you for being part of that mission.
With gratitude,
Chris Allen Executive Director
SoCal Adaptive Sports
Amigos,
Chris Allen Director Ejecutivo SoCal Adaptive Sports
