Dear Community Members:
As we approach the end of the year, we have a lot to be thankful for. We've been able to develop many new friendships and partnerships in reaching more athletes and their family members and friends, not only in the Coachella Valley and in Riverside County but throughout southern California. We've been very persistent in our outreach efforts and they are paying off in leveling the playing field, creating greater opportunities, and ultimately developing more access and societal inclusion. We understand that this is a life-long journey but as more and more doors open up, we've been able to walk, run, and push through them.
Last weekend we were involved in six events. Thanks to some wonderful volunteers and board members we were able to fully participate.
One of our major activities was helping to coordinate a Community Resource Fair and Fishing Derby at the Lake at the Packhouse at Aziz Farms. Mark Kristen and their staff welcomed us with open arms for a terrific afternoon of fishing and chilling.
This was very much a team effort We Can Fish, Variety-the Children's Charity of the Desert, and Olive Tree OT were all involved in coordinating with SoCal Adaptive Sports. Ezekiel's Gift of Love, Ganas, and UCPIE, Autism Society IE, DRD Adaptive, Southern California Mountains Foundation-Urban Conservation Corps, Angel View, and others helped in making this successful. Stay tuned for me of these types of activities.
During the past couple of weeks, we spent time in Burbank (speaker at National Adaptive PE conference), Pasadena (Triumph Adaptive Sports Fairs, Beaumont (dedication of a new inclusive park), Thermal (CVUSD event), Cathedral City (Autism walk) and Santa Anita (Ability First-Walk and Roll), helping out at various events, spreading the love of inclusion.
Our partnership with Desert ARC in both Yucca Valley and Palm Desert is continuing to help participants learn how to play a variety of sports and be healthy. We provide coaching in a number of sports opportunities in order for everybody to find something that they feel passionate about.
Our partnership with Robin Hood Archery is thriving. The Robin Hood staff has a great expertise and passion for archery. If you really want to learn how to "shoot" please join us.
Wednesday tennis and pickleball are starting to see some new athletes through our two sessions- one from 12:30-1:30 and the other from 1:30-2:30. You can sign up for one or both, please see below.
I always enjoy working with the children at our Thursday Riverside after-school program Be on the lookout for a flyer regarding our youth adaptive winter break sports camp!
Our collaboration with the Berger Foundation Icelplex in offering Adaptive Skating has a few participants but it has started. Be on the lookout for future information about the continuation of this program.
It isn't only the athletes whom we love working with but also the entire family. We enjoy building a very accessible community!
