Dear Community Members:
Happy Holidays to all no matter what you choose to celebrate. It really is a lovely time of the year for many. But it's also important to keep in mind all of those who, due to life circumstances, don't have the opportunity to celebrate in the US and throughout the world. Hopefully these people will have more peace in their lives and countries enabling them to celebrate next year!
The more that I'm out in the world the more I realize that we need to ensure that people know about and understand others. Yesterday, I was at an event where there were some face painters. I asked them if they would paint a menorah on my face, but none of them knew what it was or about Hanukah. This was a great teaching moment, as one of the face painters pulled up a menorah on her phone and painted it on my face. Besides talking about Hanukah I mentioned Kwanzaa, which they also hadn't heard of.
I think that it's important to take the time to learn about other's traditions and celebrations something which really has helped to enrich my life.
