Thank%20you%20Firebirds.png

As many of you know we recently had our very first skate at the Berger Foundation Iceplex.  It was a wonderful event and we saw lots of smiles and confidence building in pushing limits.  We hope that this will be the first of many skates leading to establishing various types of adapted hockey for everyBODY!

Thanks to Paloma French of Olive Tree OT for collaborating on training Iceplex coaches on June 17 and in planning and implementing the skate.  We also wish to thank Variety of the Desert and Ganas for bringing many  participants.  Thanks to the many organizations that helped to promote this.  (You can find their websites, and those of many others, below.) American Special Hockey Association (ASHA)  helped to make this a success by providing funding for the Iceplex Rental.

The GM of the Iceplex, Leslie Deason, and all of the people who work with her have welcomed us with open arms from the beginning.  Next time you skate please thank them for making adapted skating possible.

We're going to see the Firebirds on December 16, stay tuned to a future newsletter to register.

I recently watched the movie Luca and Silvana on Kanopy. Luca and Silvana are in love and dream of getting married. But there are many bureaucratic obstacles to overcome for those who – like them – have Down Syndrome, so their marriage is postponed year after year. Perhaps their desire for an independent life together will remain just a dream.  Very heart-warming and uplifting.

Here are some other movies featuring people with disabilities which you might enjoy.

Please check out this recent interview  that Mike did on the Gene Nichols radio show!

Hope to see you soon!  Thank you!
