Dear Community Members:
Let's start this newsletter off with a Simon & Garfunkel April song.
April Come She Will
As you read this people around the world will be celebrating Easter which has a deep meaning for many. Growing up in the Jewish faith, Easter was not a religious day for me and as a youngster, was more about eating lots of candy. Now the real meaning for me is about how to love and forgive others, not a particularly easy task given the state of the world, as well as, in my own life.
We all get hurt and, though maybe not intentionally, hurt others. There is tremendous misunderstanding as we see the world only from our own perspective and not that of others. Around the world some people are considered less than and not welcomed leading to wars, hate and many difficulties and suffering such as homelessness/displacement, poverty, famine, and death. Looking inward I know that there is much more that I can do to understand others but it isn't easy as I have my way of operating in the world and see others through this lens and my own experiences. (I'm currently reading the David Brooks book, "How to Know a Person".
There is so much more that we can all do to bring about more love and peace not only in our own lives but also throughout the world in the actions that we take on a daily basis. This Easter, I wish you all more peace and love in your lives!
All You Need is Love
"César Chávez once said about the power of La Causa: “Once social change begins it cannot be reversed. You cannot un-educate the person who has learned to read. You cannot humiliate the person who feels pride. You cannot oppress the people who are not afraid anymore…you cannot stamp out a people’s cause.” On this day, we recognize that César Chávez and his fellow farm workers made progress that can never be taken back. They fought for a sacred cause that continues to beat in the hearts of the American people: Every worker — no matter who they are, where they are from, or what they do — deserves dignity and respect." (This is a movie about Cesar Chavez.)
